Pickup slams into Fla. fire truck at accident scene

No firefighters were hurt in the incident

MANDARIN, Fla. — Motorists on Interstate 295 in Mandarin faced long traffic delays this morning after a pickup truck crashed into a the back of a fire truck on the highway’s overpass at Old St. Augustine Road.

Three occupants for the pickup were transported to the hospital, but their injuries were not life-threatening, authorities said. No firefighters were hurt.

The fire truck went to the overpass in response to help at the scene of a previous one-car accident. A driver who exited I-295 lost control while rounding the exit ramp to head south on Old St. Augustine Road and her car ran up the side of the overpass’s embankment. The fire truck arrived and parked in the breakdown lane of the overpass to help secure the car on the steep bank below the overpass.
